Top 10 Getaways to Find Your Reason

A Millennial's guide on how to not have fun, increase human suffering, and get very little done.

1. Deny yourself and others agency

Things just happen. Evoke materialist arguments to deny "free will" as a sensible way to think about human experience. Don't say "I decided to skip work today". Instead, say, "my friend made me hang out instead of going to work today". If somebody asks about your friend, just say that "they're just like that". If pressed further, start dropping reference to cosmology, mechanical clocks, and quantum physics. However, you should blame other people for what they chose to do. By flipping your argumentation strategy as is convenient, you can show the Internet how open minded you are.

2. Give the feels the reigns

Feelings make the world go round. If your feelings aren't strong enough, give control to people who have stronger feelings. References to feelings are also useful for explaining actions in a deterministic framework.

3. Embrace suffering

Accumulating suffering is a prudent strategy for building credibility. If you seem too content with how things are going, your demands are less likely to be met. Crying babies get what they want, whereas smiling babies just have their pictures taken until they stop smiling. Suffering does not need to be attached to any goal (e.g. physical exertion for getting stronger by lifting weights).

4. Retaliate

Return unpleasantries with unpleasantries. (-1) * (-1) = 1; so its a net positive for the world, as is proven here mathematically.

5. Find your "get out of jail free" card

Pin your mistakes on something else, the more abstract the better.  If you pin your life difficulties on something too concrete, e.g. "my computer is too slow," then if you get a new faster computer you will have to reinvent the wheel get out of jail free card. Common go-to solutions are "white people", "the man", and "c'est la vie".

6. Choose your friends conveniently

You may have heard the old wisdom, "choose your friends wisely". What is wisdom? I'm not sure, but I know what convenience is. Stick with what you know rather than risking the okay-ish time you can have with the people that are most convenient to interact with.

7. Don't read the manual

They're boring and you can figure it out later or make someone else do it. In fact, if you read the manual, then other people might ask you to solve THEIR problems.

8. Maximally, plan 24 hours into the future

A schedule is like the mean playground supervisor that made you quit playing and go back to studying in elementary school. If you plan more than 24 hours into the future, people might expect you not to flake on plans. This limits your freedom.

9. Learn to dismiss criticism

This is the best blog, and yeah you're entitled to your opinion but that doesn't mean you're right ☺

10. Think about what you can get, not about what you can contribute

If you are persistent enough, people may give you what you want out of exhaustion. Don't give up!
